Celebration of 36 Years of ELI

Celebrating 36 Years of ELI and honoring the enduring support of a few of our most dedicated proponents, Eve Orlow, Saul Freedman and The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

On March 6, 2016 friends gathered in Wynnewood, PA at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El to celebrate ELI’s 36th anniversary and its groundbreaking work in Israel in the field of child abuse – prevention, protection and treatment. ELI's mission is passionately supported by the American Friends of ELI, and the many individuals, foundations and Jewish Federations and organizations across the United States. This celebration gave special recognition to the phenomenal role of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia in launching and sustaining critical ELI services, as well as the outstanding contributions of two Philadelphia leaders, Saul Freedman and Eve Orlow.

Dolls Depict The Horror Of Child Abuse

In May 2013 ELI launched a new campaign to raise awareness with a two-day conceptual art installation in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv. Motivated by exceptionally high increases in abuse, particularly sexual abuse, ELI arranged neat rows of colorful dolls that, upon close examination, displayed symptoms of abuse. They had arms and legs missing, body parts bloodied and bandaged, bruises painted on faces, mouths sealed with duct tape, etc. Onlookers approached and then recoiled at the images. The display received international press attention, and images can be found on the Internet. The goal of the campaign is to put a face on child abuse, encouraging people not only to see, but also to report suspected abuse and to help ELI in its efforts to combat it. This novel campaign continues online, in print and on television.
